Common Conditions
Q. What is diabetic foot care?
A.

When you have diabetes your feet need special care. Even a small problem can become serious. Diabetes can damage nerves in your feet and cause neuropathy. This condition makes it hard for you to feel injuries or sore spots. Diabetes can also change blood flow, making it harder for small problems, like a blister, to heal properly. Minor injuries can quickly become serious infections. Signs of foot problems can include:

  • Red spots, blisters, corns or calluses
  • Dry cracked, or scaly skin
  • Slow healing sores
  • Numbness
  • Drainage on your sock
  • Thick, yellow, or ingrown toenails
  • a tingling, cold, or burning sensation
  • red streaks or changes in skin color
